Preserving Omani Culture and Heritage
Muriya’s projects will ensure that the architecture takes its design cues from the local culture and environment; it will typify the location within which it is found. The local building techniques, styles, materials and employment of local craftsmen and artisans will be an important consideration for the destinations.

Environmental Preservation
Muriya is fully committed to preserving the natural treasures on which its success is built, especially the rare and fragile marine life that remain the central attraction for Al Sodah Island and the destinations of ‘Salalah Beach’ and ‘Jebel Sifah’. Following suit and taking steps to ensure all its projects are developed in a socially responsible manner, Muriya is implementing the following;

  • With the support of the Ministry of Environment and Climate Affairs (MECA) Muriya Tourism Development Company (MTDC) in collaboration with Environment Society of Oman (ESO) initiated the deployment of 12 mooring buoys across Oman.
  • The state of the coral life will be regularly monitored by specialists to calculate the impact of development.
  • Buffer zones have be established in environmentally sensitive areas, such as the 150 m ‘no building zone’ near the ‘khawrs’ (inland creeks) in Salalah that houses special species of birds and fish
  • Vegetation clearing will be minimized to reduce habitat loss – Muriya will try and build around the natural resources rather than destroy it.
  • In Salalah, Muriya will develop and implement a turtle management and nesting surveillance programme to protect the turtles. This will include restricting off road vehicles, limiting lights that distract turtles and also educating people.
  • Waste management plans will be put into place that will include recycling, minimization of waste by educating guests and employees and regular waste collection and disposal.
  • Put a plan in place to monitor any environmental changes in sediment or marine life, air emissions, dust, noise, etc.
  • Muriya will also liaise with local fishermen in Sifah to monitor and minimize impact on marine life.

Mooring Buoys Campaign

Muriya Tourism Development Company (Muriya) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Environment Society of Oman (ESO) on 1st September, 2008 to support ESO’s Mooring Buoys Campaign by providing a donation to manufacture and thus playing a major role in the deployment of twelve mooring buoys in certain areas across Oman.

Establishing Hotel School in Oman

On 20th of May 2009, Muriya Tourism Development conducted a workshop under the patronage of the Minister of Education & the Minister of Tourism announcing our project of establishing an international hotel school in Sifah. The Ministry of Tourism (MoT) has allocated a piece of land (area 7,150m²) in Sifah. We will proceed with the construction of the school building after signing of the Usufruct Agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding with the Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Manpower & the Ministry of Education.

Recycling Plant project
Muriya has established a new company under the name of “Muriya for Recycling and Services L.L.C.” The recycling plant will be installed at Bidiya for recycling the garbage collected from Eastern Sands dessert area.
Clinics on Sifah & Salalah sites
We have signed contracts with Babylon Medical Centre and Liya Medical Complex to start and operate clinics at our Sifah & Salalah sites respectively. These clinics serve workers at our sites as well as the local people. Moreover we are in the process of buying an ambulance to serve Sifah site and the local people of Sifah village since the nearest hospital is thirty minutes away.

Rebuilding Sifah Mosque

We were informed that the mosque in Sifah village is a safety hazard and needs to be dealt with. Hence, we took an initiative to demolish and rebuild the mosque. Muriya will bear all the cost related to this task as a contribution in this noble cause.

Small projects to support the local community
We established a supermarket, a bakery and a fish shop on Sifah site to be operated by the local people who will get all the revenues generated by it. Similar projects will be done at Salalah site and we have started with supermarket already.

Developing Sifah open beach for public
We are currently working on a project of developing a public beach having a small restaurant, a café, 3 public toilet units and some wooden shades in the sand dunes alongside the beach of Sifah in order to make it open and ready for public. It will be maintained and operated by the Sifah local people under the supervision of Muriya.

Renovation, maintenance & operation of Sifah Citadel
In cooperation with the Ministry of Heritage and Culture, we have undertaken a project of renovating a citadel in Sifah which in turn will be maintained and operated by Muriya and will be used for our events.
